Celia is a partner with Fillmore Riley LLP and practises primarily in the areas of employment, labour, human rights and insurance law. Celia has appeared before the Manitoba Labour Board, arbitration boards, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, and all court levels in Manitoba. She also has experience and represents clients in alternative dispute resolutions and mediations.
Tell us about your work.
I provide employment and/or labour law advice to both employers and employees in respect of: 1. Wrongful dismissals; 2. Employee discipline and performance management; 3. Employee Policies; 4. Employment contracts and contract negotiations; 5. Employment standards; 6. Human rights and the duty to accommodate; 7. Harassment and respectful workplace issues; 8. Collective agreement administration, interpretation and negotiation; 9. Grievance arbitration and mediation; and 10. Manitoba Labour Board matters.
How did you come to join your organization?
I joined Fillmore Riley LLP as a summer student after my second year of law society and then back again as an articling student. I have been with Fillmore Riley LLP ever since. I sincerely enjoy the people I work with. It is collaborative workplace and has provided me the opportunity and ability to do the type of law that I love.
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
My dad. My dad is a lawyer and has provided me an immeasurable amount of support and encouragement.
Name one skill you think every good professional should have.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Being able to provide solutions to people's problems.
What's your best advice for a new professional in your field?
It's hard, but it is rewarding.
